There are a lot of things to love about a Springer. We love all dogs and have other breeds, but a Springer will win your heart. Each one has its own unique personality, some can be silly, playful clowns, there’s not a day goes by that we’re not laughing about something that one of our goofy kids is doing!
If you’re looking for an outdoor companion for walks or runs, they’ll hit the trail with you and they won’t be the one to quit first. They are bred to be bird dogs, so they love being in the field or woods with you. You’ll soon discover why they’re named Springers, when you see them sail out of the tall grass, ears in flight! Even though they’re a bird dog, I’m convinced with some training, they’d make a great herding dog. Our male helps me herd cattle, doing a pretty decent job, without any training.
We’ve got a couple that would literally play ball until they dropped if we let them. So, you’d think they have to be active all day, but our Springers love to be a lap dog, too. All of our dogs are family pets and a Springer just wants to be with you more than anything else. They’ll share your lap, couch, bed, whatever you allow them to do. You have to be one tough customer to make it out of the house to go somewhere without taking them with you!
Springers that are well socialized from a young age do well with people and other animals. They’re great parents of their puppies and love to run and play with all our other dogs.
These are very intelligent dogs, who by nature want to please you, most we’ve had are good motivated also, so if you’re wanting to train for hunting or field trials or just basic obedience, they are easier to train than a lot of breeds. I’ve wanted to try Agility with our male and I know he’d find it much easier to do than me!
So, we love ours for their energy, personalities, loyalty, love and big hearts. We know you’ll love them as much as we do, too.
